The Worst Is Over

Today, January 20, 2009, marks the end of one of the greatest errors in American history. Today is the end of the worst presidency in modern times.

George W Bush is not the icing but rather the turd on the cake. He ends his stolen presidency following in the vein of the worst presidencies of the last 100 years, all of which were Republicans.

Herbert Hoover gave the country the Great Depression. Richard Nixon, like George W Bush, never saw unemployment decrease from the level it was when he took office. Ronald Reagan saw the highest unemployment rate, 10.8%, since the Great Depression. George H W Bush had the worst overall post World War II economic record, before George W Bush.

George W Bush has seen the official unemployment rate increase 71.43% from 4.2 to 7.2. The poverty rate increased 10.62% from 11.3 to 12.5, through 2007. The national average retail price of a gallon of gasoline rose 21.28% from $1.471 to $1.831. The national debt increased 85.55% from $5,727,776,738,304.64 to $10,627,708,753,691.50. The price of a barrel of crude oil has increased 53.81% from $32.19 to $49.51. The S & P 500 is down 37.15% from 1,342.54 to 843.74. The NASDAQ is down 45.43% from 2,770.38 to 1,511.84. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 21.78% from 10,587.59 to 8,281.22.

These numbers are end of term and do not necessarily represent the worst of the Bush years.

CNN Poll: 75% Glad Bush Is Done

A recent CNN poll found that, "Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday said they're glad Bush is going; 23 percent indicated they'll miss him."

Apparently, the 23% of Americans who say they will miss Bush are either comedians or complete idiots. CaseAgainstBush.com is a proud member of the 28% who believe Bush is the worst president ever.

Personally, I will be so glad Bush is gone just so I can stop following his destruction of the country and the world.

Gas Below $2 A Gallon

According to AAA, the national average retail price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $1.989. This marks the first time gas has been below $2 a gallon since March 7, 2005, based on end of week averages recorded by the Energy Information Administration's Weekly U.S. Regular All Formulation's Retail Gasoline Prices.

All it took to get prices down to reasonable level was to push the world into a recession on the brink of the Greatest Depression.

In the video below, George W Bush admits, "It is conceivable that our country could go into a depression greater than the Great Depression." Great!

Remember, "It was amazing I won. I was running against peace and prosperity and incumbency."

Highest Unemployment Rate In 14 Years

Of course, some Bush wacko is going to say that the Unemployment Rate is at its highest since Bill Clinton was president. But, what the Bush wacko won't say is that when Bill Clinton took office the Unemployment Rate was 7.3% and it decreased to 6.5%. When Bush took office the Unemployment Rate was 4.2%. Never, at any point, in Bush's 8 years was the Unemployment Rate lower than what it was when he was appointed the presidency.

Bush's new personal record high Unemployment Rate is a 55% increase over the 4.2% rate when he took office.

The one thing about Bush's terrible economic record is that he virtually guarantees Obama will have a successful presidency when judged by economic performance. With high unemployment it is practically in the bag that Obama will have lower unemployment at least at some point in his term.

And then there is all the other bad economic news under Bush. We can't forget higher poverty, record high gas and oil prices, record high national debt, record high deficits, record low stock market performance and record low dollar worth.

Gas Prices Are Dropping, Not Enough

According to AAA, as of October 21, 2008, the National Unleaded Average price of gas is $2.889 per gallon. Gas is finally below $3 a gallon.

When George W Bush became president the national average price of gas was $1.471. When adjusted for inflation that would be $1.8689 in 2008 dollars. So even when adjusted for inflation the current price of gas is up 55%.

Two days before Bill Clinton took office, January 18, 1993, gas was $1.061 a gallon. At the end of the next week o January 25, 1993, gas was $1.055. Let's use the lower price of $1.055, which will result in a higher percentage rate change in the price of gas under Clinton. When adjusted for inflation what cost $1.055 at the end of 1992 would cost $1.2949. Gas actually cost $1.471 when Clinton left office. When adjusted for inflation the price of gas increased 14%.

Gas increased 55% under George W Bush and 14% under Clinton.

Historical Minimum Wage Increases Updated

In 2007, the longest period ever without an increase to the minimum wage ended after nearly 10 years.

In 1978, the previous four different minimum wage rates were standardized to "$2.65 for all covered, nonexempt workers." Ever since then the minimum wage has decreased in value relative to that $2.65 in 1978.

What cost $2.65 in 1978 would cost $8.43 in 2007. Yet the minimum wage was only increased to $5.85. Do the math.

In 2007 the Minimum Wage was worth 31% less than it was worth in 1978.

On July 24, 2008, the minimum wage again raised. This time to $6.55. The minimum wage should $8.89 in order to maintain the same standard of living as 1978. Again, let's do that the math.

Republican Presidents Are Bad for the Country Updated

Republican presidents are bad for the country, at least when judged by historical data including change in unemployment, change in poverty, periods of recession, economic rank, stock market rank and increases in the minimum wage.

Ronald Reagan is the only Republican president to see unemployment decrease by the end of either his first or second term in office. Conversely, every Democratic president has seen unemployment decrease by the end of their term(s) except for Jimmy Carter who's unemployment rate was unchanged by term end. Although Carter ended unchanged, his unemployment rate did decrease more than 25% from 7.5 to 5.6. His highest increase was up 7.8, a 4% increase over his start rate of 7.5.

Unless you are of the opinion that higher unemployment is good, you must concede that Republican presidents are bad for the country. And there is poverty and periods of recession. All of which are worse under Republicans.

Given these irrefutable facts, clearly anyone who votes for or supports a Republican for president hates American prosperity.

About Case Against Bush . com

I am the owner and sole operator/researcher for CaseAgainstBush.com. Until now I have never posted anything remotely close to a profile or anything else of a personal nature about me because this blog is not about me. It is about the facts.

Some have called this bog "partisan" or "left wing" or the work of a Democrat. The truth is I have never been a Democrat. The fact is, I am ashamed to say that I am still registered in Louisiana as a Republican. In California and Texas I was registered as "No Party" and "Independent" respectively.

I have been told that the name, "CaseAgainstBush", doesn't sound very objective. The content of this blog preceded the name. CaseAgainstBush.com was born out of this email I sent back in 2004.

I spent a lot of time watching Fox News and fact checking their claims online as they were making the claims. I actually used to like Bill O'Reilly. Then after my bookmarks of research began piling up and the email was sent my girlfriend suggested I start a blog. But what to call it? After reading and re-reading the material I gathered it seemed only appropriate to call the blog Case Against Bush because that was the result of my objective research.

I did not set out to find fault with Bush. I set out to find the truth about things like the performance of the economy under Republican presidents versus Democratic presidents. I can't change the historical record. It is what it is.

During Bill Clinton's first term I was still in the Louisiana Army National Guard Field Artillery, a Republican and Clinton despiser and Rush Limbaugh listener. I remember, quite well, Rush defending George H W Bush's bad economy. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard Rush say, "doom and gloom." He also said to watch what was going to happen to the economy if Clinton won. Well, look at what happened after eight years of Clinton. The best economy in the history of the world. Compare Bill Clinton to George W Bush. There is no comparison.

The economy was its best under Clinton and the worst is yet to come under Bush II.

The moral of the story is CaseAgainstBush.com is not some left wing attack job on Bush. It is simply the result of researching the sources of the facts and gathering those facts in such a way that compares the entire set of data, not selective cheery picking like Fox News. When I compare presidents I make no excuses or considerations for anyone. What was the data when each president took office and what was it when they left? Only a right wing Republican partisan lunatic could attempt to suggest that America is better off after almost eight years of George W Bush.

George W Bush has taken this country and the world to the edge of economic ruin.

George W Bush is the only two term president ever to have all three stock markets down by October 8 of the their eighth year in office.

Bill Clinton had the best performance, by far, of all two termers.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed below 10,000 for the first time since October 26, 2004. The Dow is now down 5.97% to 9,955.50 from 10,587.59.

Meanwhile, the NASDAQ is down 32.75% from 1,947.39 to 1,862.96. And the S & P 500 is down 21.27% from 1,342.54 to 1,056.89.

All Three Markets Down

For the first time ever a two term president, so near the end of his time in office, saw all three markets close below the level at which they were when he took office.

The NASDAQ and the S & P 500 have been below January, 2001 for so long that there is nothing special about that fact any more. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average's triple digit plunge yesterday put it down 2% from January, 2001.

Of course, the party of personal responsibility will attempt to place all the blame on Democrats, as usual. That's what Republicans do. Republicans always attempt to blame others for everything bad that happens while taking credit for all the good.

All you have to do to prove that point is discuss the best economy ever, which occurred under Clinton, and Republicans will be quick to give the credit to the Republican Congress at the time. But, if you then talk about the economy in the 80's, Ronald Reagan gets all the credit. What about the Democratic Congress in the 80's? Aren't the Democrats worthy of all the credit for the 80's boom if Republicans are to receive the credit for the 90's?

The fact is George W Bush has lead the world right up to the precipice of a global economic catastrophe. When we "turn the corner" we just may find soup lines awaiting us.

Yesterday the NASDAQ closed at 1,983.73, down 28% from January, 2001! The S & P 500 closed at 1,106.42, down 16% from January, 2001.

The news reported NYMEX oil futures below $100 a barrel, as if that were a great thing, because of projected low demand due to the bad economy. The dip to $96.69 was short lived as oil was back $100.80 today.

George W Bush cannot leave soon enough. Hurry up Obama.

Just When We Thought It Couldn't Get Any Worse

The worst economic record of any president, since the Great Depression, has now reduced the stock markets to amazing new lows.

S & P 500 is down 11.16%
NASDAQ is down 21.31%
Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 3.12%

Three percent more and all three stock markets will be down for the first time ever, exceeding the current record low performance of any two term president.

One bright spot is the fact that the price of oil has dipped below $100 per barrel for the first time since March 4, 2008, coincidentally one year and one day since the start of the war in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the price of gasoline has increased to 383.5 cents per gallon. That's only an increase of 160.71% since Bush took office.

The Worst Is Almost Over

With only 137 days left in the White House and only 58 days until the presidential election the end of the worst presidency is in site.

What are the results of allowing an incompetent monkey to run the zoo?

Currently, 4,155 U.S. military personnel have died and 30,591 have been wounded at the hands of George W Bush's lies about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. By January 20, 2009 the projected dead and wounded is 4,440 and 32,691 respectively.

Little Bush's mess will be left for the next presidents to clean up.

The economic disaster that is George W Bush is undeniable, although die hard Republicans will, of course, sugar coat their turd.

The unemployment rate for August, 2008 is 6.1%. That is only 0.2 percentage points away from the all time worst unemployment rate under Bush. When Georgie boy became president unemployment was at 4.2%. February 2001 would be the last time a number so low would seen for at least eight years. The current rate is up more than 45% from when Bush took office. Can Bush beat his own dubious record before departing? Don't underestimate the power of the dark side.

The price of gas and oil has sky rocketed because of George W Bush's failed policies, namely lying to justify an illegal war in Iraq. Thanks to NeoCon lies the cost of gas is up 150% and the cost of crude oil is up 234%.

The stock markets are the worst of any two term president in history, but, don't call Bush the worst president ever.

Bush Blames Democratic Congress for High Gas Prices

In an August 23, 2008 radio address, George W Bush made a hilarious statement that must have been incredibly difficult to say with a straight face. Boy George actually said,

"This Congress has been one of the most unproductive on record. They've failed to address the challenge of high gas prices. Members still have time to take action on this vital priority for the American people. They need to send me a bill next month that I can sign -- so we can bring relief to drivers, small business owners, farmers and ranchers, and every American affected by high prices at the pump. "

Apparently, when Republicans controlled Congress there must have been some mysterious force, God perhaps, preventing Republicans from solving the energy problem that began while Republicans were in charge of everything. Now that Democrats are in control of Congress high gas prices are a "vital priority for the American people" which must be acted upon.

Of course, something needs to be done about the ridiculous cost of energy. But why didn't Republicans do anything about in May of 2004 when nominal gas prices crossed the $2 mark for the first ever?

When Bush or any other Republican seeks to blame Democrats for the consequences of the disaster known as the Bush presidency it is reminiscent of the French taunting of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in Monty Python & the Holy Grail when the French said they already had a Holy Grail. How do the Cons maintain their composure while making such comments?

More Americans Question Religion's Role in Politics

Finally, Americans appear to be wising up, slightly.

A new poll released by Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life says that a narrow majority want to see churches and other houses of worship stay out of politics.

Surprisingly, the most dramatic change in opinion has occurred in conservatives. Four years ago only 30% held the view that religion should stay out of politics. Today 50% of conservatives believe so.

Someone needs to update previous polls on the beliefs of the stories in the Bible. In 2004 60% believed, "The story of Noah and the ark in which it rained for 40 days and nights, the entire world was flooded, and only Noah, his family and the animals on their ark survived." Sixty-one percent believed, "The creation story in which the world was created in six days." Sixty-four percent believed, "The story about Moses parting the Red Sea so the Jews could escape from Egypt."

Even scarier is the fact that in December 2006 25% of Americans polled believed that it was at least somewhat likely that Jesus would to return to Earth in 2007. Have you seen Jesus?

Inflation Hits 17 Year High

"AMERICANS paid more not only for petrol and food, but also for goods and services, including clothes, shoes, hotels and air travel, as inflation unexpectedly jumped to a 17-year high.

The consumer price index climbed 0.8 per cent last month, or 5.6 per cent over the past year, the Labour Department said on Thursday, twice as much as Wall Street anticipated. It was the third straight month of high inflation, and, year-on-year, the highest since January 1991, when the economy was in recession.

The data showed that companies, which have been struggling all year with the rising price of oil and other raw materials they need to manufacture and transport their goods, are increasingly passing the higher costs on to consumers."

Bush to leave a record budget deficit of $482 billion

"If we gave Olympic medals for fiscal irresponsibility, President Bush would take the gold, the silver and the bronze, because he's got the three highest record deficits ever," said Sen. The Worst Is A Fact, Not An Opinion

Die hard members of the 28 percentile who still support the Worst president ever would rather deny the irrefutable facts than admit they are wrong or admit that George W Bush is, in fact, the Worst president with the Worst economic performance since his dad.

Despite pathetic attempts to discredit the historical record the stock markets level when Bush took office and their performance since then is not a matter of opinion but a matter of fact.

The current performance of the Dow, NASDAQ and the S & P 500 are all the Worst of any two term president.

When George W Bush became president the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 10,587.59 while the current close as of May 23, 2008, is 12,479.63 which represents a 17.87% increase. Those numbers are not an opinion. Those numbers are fact. The next Worst performance of the Dow under a two term president was a 104.22% increase as of May 23, 1988, during Reagan's second term.

The NASDAQ, under the Worst president ever, is down 11.76%. No other two term president saw a decrease in the NASDAQ as of May 23 of the their last year in office. Reagan saw an 82.82% increase while Clinton witnessed a 353.74% increase! The NASDAQ was 2,770.38 when Bush took office and is now down to 2,444.67 as of May 23, 2008. Again, not an opinion, but, a fact.

The S & P 500 is yet another dubious distinction for the Worst president ever. Currently, the S & P is barely up 2.49%. The previous Worst was under Reagan when the S & P was up 90.53% as of May 23, 1988. Bush's S & P 500 began at 1,342.54 and is now at 1,375.93. That is another fact, not an opinion.

Supporters of the Worst president ever seek to invoke the Dow 14,000, the highest close ever, as a evidence of Bush's strong economy. There is nothing exceptional about a two term president seeing a record high close. Every two term president to be in office as long as Bush, excluding Nixon that is, has had a record high stock market. What is exceptional is the low rate of increase under Bush as compared to other presidents.

When the Dow closed above 14,000 for the first time the Dow was still only up 32.23% from 10,587.59 when Bush took office to 14,000.41 on Jul 17, 2007. The previous Worst performance was under Eisenhower when the Dow increased 130.6875%! Eisenhower's Dow increased by more than four times the percentage rate of George W Bush.

The NASDAQ at its best end of month was up 3.20% at 2,859.12 from 2,770.38. At its worst was down 57.69% to 1,172.06. Currently the NASDAQ is down 16.81% at 2,304.80.

A newly disclosed secret memo authored by the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) in March 2003 that asserts President Bush has unlimited power to order brutal interrogations of detainees also reveals a radical interpretation of the Constitution's Fourth Amendment protection from unreasonable search and seizure. The memo, declassified yesterday as the result of an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit, cites a still-secret DOJ memo from 2001 that found that the "Fourth Amendment had no application to domestic military operations."

The October 2001 memo was almost certainly meant to provide a legal basis for the National Security Agency's warrantless wiretapping program, which President Bush launched the same month the memo was issued. As a component of the Department of Defense, the NSA is a military agency.

"The recent disclosures underscore the Bush administration's extraordinarily sweeping conception of executive power," said Jameel Jaffer, Director of the ACLU's National Security Project. "The administration's lawyers believe the president should be permitted to violate statutory law, to violate international treaties, and even to violate the Fourth Amendment inside the U.S. They believe that the president should be above the law."

The War to End All Bush Presidencies

It is reported that George W Bush will argue today that war in Iraq has been worth the "high cost of lives and treasure". Easy for him to say. He has not lost any family in the illegal and unnecessary war in Iraq.

Recently, the Department of Defense has been cooking the books on the number of deaths in Iraq as the 5th anniversary approached. Apparently Bush didn't want to have to face the big "4,000" number.

For those of us who check the number of killed on a daily basis there is not doubt the military has not been forthcoming with the entire truth. If this discrepancy can be cited how many other "errors" have been made?

CNN just reported the official claim of the cost of the war is just over $400 billion as of December 2007. However, the long term cost is expected to be more like $3 trillion.

The latest CBS News poll shows that only 29% believe the war has been the cost while 64% do not see the war as being worth it.

Remember the good ol' days when the majority supported the war the minority who opposed the war had their patriotism questioned and were accused of hating America? Now that the majority opposes the war what does that say about minority who still support the destruction of Iraq and the bankrupting of America? Why do war supporters hate America?

On March 11, 2008, the New York Times reported the deaths of 8 soldiers in a bombing in Iraq. Prior to that event the Department of Defense's official casualty count had been 3,974. After the reported 8 deaths the DoD's count increased by only 1.

Today is March 14, 2008, and the DoD has updated their body count to 3,978, still not enough to account for the 8 killed in that one attack alone. Obviously, the count should have increased from 3,974 to 9,982 on the deaths of the 8 killed. Then factor in the 4 which were added and the count increases to 9,986. Why the discrepancy?

Of course, some will cry, "conspiracy theory!" Those would be people who suck at math.

Gas Nowhere Near Prices of Decades Ago?

During an interview on the Fox Propaganda Channel Eddie Lazear of the President's Council of Economic Advisers flat out lied when he claimed that the current record high price of gas is "nowhere near" the record high prices of decades ago when adjusted for inflation. Fast forward to 1:50.

The previous record high was during the reign of Ronald Reagan when gas was $1.378 per gallon. When adjusted for inflation to 2008 dollars Reagan's gas price would be $3.199. The price per gallon quoted on Fox was $3.20. Is $3.20 nowhere near $3.199?

Check for yourself. Go to the the Bureau of Labor Statistics' CPI Inflation Calculator and enter 137.8, then select 1981 from the drop down menu. Calculate in 2008 dollars.

As CaseAgainstBush.com had previously noted here and here, although George W bush did have the record high nominal price of gas Ronald Reagan was still the all time high from 1919 - 2007 when adjust for inflation as of May 6, 2006. The two highest prices were 1980 and 1981 with '81 being the highest. The next highest price when adjusted for inflation was in 1922.

Today, when adjusted inflation the previous top three prices have been surpassed by the worst president ever at $328.4. But today's record high is nowhere near the record highs of decades ago.

This is the third, and hopefully last, Bush recession. The first was during H.W.'s one term. The second was the beginning of this Bush's first term. The last third is, of course, the current recession in which we are in right now.

Have Americans learned their lesson that a Bush in the White House is bad for the country? George H.W. Bush had the dubious distinction of having the worst post-World War II economy before America's first retarded president, George W. Bush, dethroned his father as the worst.

The national debt under Bush has increase 63.12% from $5,727,776,738,304.64 to $9,343,241,961,715.05 whereas Clinton saw a 36.49% increase from $4,188,092,107,183.60 to $5,716,405,165,061.87. If Bush had seen the same percentage increase in the national debt as Bill Clinton did the debt would be $7,817,949,484,684.17.

Although the unemployment rate for February has not yet been released the difference between Bush and Clinton based on January numbers is stark. Under Bush unemployment is up 16.67% from 4.2 to 4.9. At the same point under Clinton unemployment was down 45.21% from 7.2 to 4.0. George W Bush has never seen a net decrease in unemployment. Check back for updated February information.

The national average retail price of a gallon of gasoline is up 114.96% from $1.471 to $3.162 as of Monday, March 3, 2008. Bush is only 3.79 cents away from tying Reagan's high of $3.1999 per gallon in 1981. Clinton experienced a 29.69% increase from $1.0618 per gallon to $1.377.

The S & P 500 is down 2.59% from 1,366.01 to 1,330.63. Under Clinton the S & P increased 217.80% from 438.78 to 1,394.46.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up only 15.86% from 10,587.59 to 12,266.39, by far the worst performance of any two term post-World War II president to have served the same length of time in office. Nixon did see the Dow decrease 16.53% by the end of his second term. However, Nixon resigned in disgrace prematurely so George W Bush is credited with the worst two term post-World War II performance. Clinton saw the DJIA increase 212.41% from 3,241.95 to 10,128.31.

The following is not a typo. The NASDAQ under Bush is down 18.01% from 2,770.38 to 2,271.48, whereas Clinton saw the NASDAQ increase 573.42% from 697.44 to 4,696.69.

The only presidents to experience decreases in any of the stock markets are Republicans Nixon, Ford and George W Bush. The only two term post-World War II president to see a decrease in the markets after his first term was George W Bush.

New Oil Record High

Oil closed at $100.88 for the first ever yesterday Tuesday, February 26, 2008.

Now the question is how high above $100 will oil go?

The next president will have a cake walk following Bush. The fact that everything that should be down is up and everything that should be up is down will make it easy to quickly perform better than Bush in the sense that the numbers improved since the new president took office.

Of course, loyal Bushies will credit Bush for the improvements which occur after he leaves office.

The next president will see decreases in all that should decrease like unemployment, poverty, cost of gas and crude oil. They will also see increases in all that should increase like the NASDAQ and the S & P 500 and the Dow will increase by a greater percentage than the pathetic performance under Bush, the worst of any two term post-World War II president.

Oil Closes Above $100 for First Time Ever

Of course, loyal Bushies will say that the oil refinery explosion was not Bush's fault so Bush cannot be blamed for oil closing above $100 for the first time ever.

Had the lying Bush administration not mislead the country into an unnecessary war in one of the largest oil producing countries in the world the price of oil would not have been so close to $100 in the first place as to only need a nudge.

Had France done what Bush did there would be no doubt that the French were responsible for the price oil exceeding $100 per barrel. But when it is a Republican idiot who is to blame it is time to make excuses. Damage control.

The last close of the New York Mercantile Exchange Light Sweet Crude Oil was $95.50. The $100.01 close represent a 4.72% increase on the news of the refinery explosion. Given that oil was only $28.56 per barrel when Bush took office it is fair to say that his bungled invasion of Iraq has had a detrimental effect on the price of oil.

On September 10, 2001 oil was $27.89. If it were still that low today and the refinery explosion occurred and the price jumped 4.72% oil would only cost $29.21. Even after 9/11 oil only jumped to $29.17 by September 17, 2001, a smaller percentage increase than after the refinery explosion. But don't blame Bush. He's too stupid to really have any control over anything.

It will be funny to see how critical the Conservative media is of Obama as president.

Good thing I'm not a Republican or I may not have been able to figure that one out.

Historical Unemployment Rate 1948 - 2008

The table features all historical unemployment rate data from 1948 through 2008 and includes Annual Averages, Monthly Averages, All Time Historical Average and All Time Historical Median unemployment rates.

The lowest Monthly Average is for February at 5.58 and the highest Monthly Average is 5.61 for June and December. The All Time Average is 5.59 and the All Time Median is 5.50.

The All Time Low is 2.5 in May and June of 1953 under Eisenhower while the All Time High is 10.8 during November and December of 1982 under Reagan.

The greatest decrease in the Unemployment Rate was 42.47% from 7.3 to 4.2 during Bill Clinton's terms. The greatest increase was 127.59% from 2.9 to 6.6 under Eisenhower.

A recent study conducted by two non-profit journalism organizations concluded that George W Bush and top members of his administration conducted a deliberate campaign of misinformation to justify the war against Iraq.

Of course, loyal Bushies attempt to dismiss the findings of the study because of funding by George Soros. As if funding alters the content of Bush administration lies.

There Goes the Dow

Just when you thought things couldn't much worse in the last year of George Worst Bush the Dow Jones Industrial Average has nose dived more than 8% from 13,043.96 on January 2, 2008 to 11,971.19 on January 22, 2008.

That drop has put Bush's pathetic Dow performance at a miserable 14.84% increase since January 20, 2001.

The previous "worst" performance of a two-term post-World War II president spending as much time in office as Bush, excluding Nixon, was during the Reagan presidency when the Dow increased only 100.23% from 950.45 to 1,908.51.

The second worst was Eisenhower's 124.25% increase from 288.00 to 645.85.

The best Dow Jones performance for the same time period was, of course, in Bill Clinton's term when the Dow increased 247.07% from 3,241.95 to 11,251.71.

Bush - Still a Hypocrite

In a speech the White House calls 'President Bush Discusses Importance of Freedom in the Middle East' bush made several laughable statements, as usual.

Bush frequently speaks of the importance of 'freedom' of the people and 'accountability' of the government yet his administration has been the least accountable American government ever, smacking of Cold War Soviet secrecy. The grand freedom Bush invokes as justification for his wars is the same freedom he has violated left and right in the Land of Free.

In this speech G claimed, a "[n]ew era is being built with the understanding that power is a trust that must be exercised with the consent of the governed -- and deliver equal justice under the law." This "new era" must be beginning right now as his administration has functioned without the consent or approval of the governed. Bush has employed the use of signing statements 156 times to exempt himself from "justice under under the law."

According to the University of California, Santa Barbara's American Presidency Project:

In July 2006, an ABA "Blue Ribbon Task Force"—not "The ABA"—found that these presidential assertions of constitutional authority "undermine the rule of law and our constitutional system of separation of powers."

George W Bush has basically taken a Sharpie to the Bill of Rights and crossed out the freedoms which are inconvenient to him and his regime.

Amendments which no longer apply:

Amendment I: "[A]bridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Amendment IV: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation."
Amendment V: No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury."
Amendment VI: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."
Amendment VIII: "[N]or cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

Half of the Bill of Rights no longer applies.

"Some of the victims that day [September 11th, 2001] were innocent Muslims. And since then, al Qaeda and its allies have killed many more Muslims here in the Middle East -- including women and children."

But do not mention the fact the U.S. "and its allies have killed many more Muslims here in the Middle East -- including women and children" than al Qaeda. By Bush's own admission, "30,000, more or less, have died as a result of the initial incursion and the ongoing violence." Other, more scientific, estimates put the number of dead Iraqi civilians at 600,000.

"We also see leaders across this region beginning to respond to the desires of their people"

What about the desire of the American people?

Polls have for years and continue to show that most Americans favor withdrawing troops from Iraq, believe the invasion was a mistake, disapprove of the way Bush is handling Iraq and most oppose the war. Is Bush acting on the desire of the American people? Hell no!

"You cannot build trust when you hold an election where opposition candidates find themselves harassed or in prison. You cannot expect people to believe in the promise of a better future when they are jailed for peacefully petitioning their government. And you cannot stand up a modern and confident nation when you do not allow people to voice their legitimate criticisms."

Opposition candidates find themselves harassed? Sort of like the way the Right Wing propaganda machine attacks its opposition with lies and smear tactics during every election? Or what about "the right of the people to peaceably assemble" when hundreds were arrested while protesting at the Republican National Convention?

Bush always speaks of the virtues of "democracy" while his Right Wing supporters suggest we do not have nor should we want democracy, but, rather we have a "constitutional republic". Funny thing is "democracy" is a synonym for "republic". We have a constitution and "a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them." Similarly, our "government (is supposed to be) by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system."

"To the people of Iraq: You have made your choice for democracy."

Wasn't the Iraqi "democracy" emposed by George W Bush and not initiated from within Iraq?

"To the people of Iran: You are rich in culture and talent. You have a right to live under a government that listens to your wishes, respects your talents, and allows you to build better lives for your families. Unfortunately, your government denies you these opportunities, and threatens the peace and stability of your neighbors. So we call on the regime in Tehran to heed your will, and to make itself accountable to you."

George W Bush does not listen to the wishes of the American people nor is he accountable, but, Tehran should be, according to Bush's standard of accountability.

For years Bush has insisted that Iran was the next threat to America, the same way he insisted Iraq had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. Even after "the consensus of the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and the National Security Agency," concluded that Iran "halted" its nuclear weapons program in 2003 George W Bush continues to push for us and our allies "to confront this danger (Iran) before it is too late." Apparently, having a pointless disaster in Iraq is not enough for Bush. He needs another disaster in Iran.

George W Bush is the true threat to peace and freedom and democracy.

Although the Bush administration boasts of 52 months of growth, the longest on record, unemployment records show there has never been a net decrease in unemployment during the Bush years. Furthermore, unemployment is currently up almost 16% since March of 2007 and is up 19% since Bush took office.

Happy New Year?

On one hand, it is a joyous occasion ringing in the new Gregorian calendar knowing that this will be the last revolution around the star called the sun with George W Bush as the president of the United States.

On the other hand, this year new year has already seen the highest ever price per barrel of oil, at $99.67 on January 2, 2008. The December unemployment rate was back up to 5.0% from 4.2% on January 20, 2001, making unemployment up 19% since Bush took office.

Nearly every day sets a new record for the most American lives lost needlessly since the Viet Nam war.

And what die hard Republican can't wait to point out how fabulous the stock markets are performing under Bush? The wonderful Dow is up almost 19%, the absolute worst performance during a post-World War II two-term presidency. The NASDAQ is down nearly 12% since January 20, 2001. The S & P is up almost a roaring 2%!

Still, this is Bush's last year in office!

Gang-Rape Cover-Up by U.S., Halliburton/KBR

A Houston, Texas woman says she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR coworkers in Baghdad, and the company and the U.S. government are covering up the incident.

Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.

"Don't plan on working back in Iraq. There won't be a position here, and there won't be a position in Houston," Jones says she was told.

Bush Ally Defeated in Australia

Australia’s prime minister, John Howard, one of President Bush’s staunchest allies in Asia, suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the electorate on Saturday, as his Liberal Party-led coalition lost its majority in Parliament.

He will be replaced by Kevin Rudd, the Labor Party leader and a former diplomat. “Today Australia looks to the future,” Mr. Rudd told a cheering crowd in his home state of Queensland. “Today the Australian people have decided that we as a nation will move forward.”

Mr. Howard’s defeat, after 11 years in power, follows that of José María Aznar of Spain, who also backed the United States-led invasion of Iraq, and political setbacks for Tony Blair of Britain.

The most powerful leader in the world had called upon me to speak on his behalf and help restore credibility he lost amid the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So I stood at the White house briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.

There was one problem. It was not true.

I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice President, the President's chief of staff, and the President himself.

Bush Dollar Worst Since 1864

Despite the partisan cherry picking or flat out lying of loyal Bushies the facts remain the facts. As usual, when examining the whole set facts and not just the selective parts which serve the party line the evidence says that George W Bush has been disastrous for the United States.

When discussing the U.S. dollar exchange rate against major currencies those whose are dedicated to a man or a party and not the truth spin webs of lies suggesting the dollar has been in a downward spiral for decades. Where do these people get their data? Who needs data when those spewing the lies preach to a choir of the non-thinking faithful?

Who cares what the facts say? I still believe what I believe.

When analyzing the entire set of U.S. dollar exchange rates against the British pound from 1791 - 2007 the whole truth is staring us in the face. No matter how we judge the dollar against the pound during Bush's reign the dollar is down more than any comparable period in recent history.

Since 2000 the dollar has declined 26.22%. Since 1987 the dollar is down 20.17%. It is the 20 year data the die hard Republicans harp on suggesting that the long term trend is a declining dollar. Not true. At the end of Bill Clinton's term the dollar was up at 3% at 4 years, 16.51% at eight years and 53.48% at 20 years. Beginning at 2000 and working backwards in 20 year increments we have to go back 1941 to find the last twenty year decline in the dollar against the pound. In 1941 the twenty year dollar experienced a 4.54% decline against the pound.

As of this posting, as far back as 1941 there have been no declines in the U.S. dollar versus the British pound in the twenty trend, until George W Bush. Notice when the twenty decline begins, 2003, the start of the unnecessary Iraq War. Like all other bad Bush news that fact must just be a coincidence.

What kind of anti-American, besmirch America first unpatriotic bastard would bash the glorious U.S. dollar in defense of a boob like George W Bush? A Republican.

The national average retail price of a gallon gasoline is approaching Ronald Reagan's March, 1981 record high of $1.42.

The inflation adjusted price keeps going up so fast from day-to-day it is difficult to label the $1.42 price in 2007 dollars. Days ago the inflation adjusted price was $3.05. It is now $3.26.

Crude Oil Up More Than 200%

Since George W Bush has been in office the price of NYMEX Light Sweet Crude Oil has increased 201.58%.

Given the latest round of ever increasing oil prices it is highly likely that more record setting prices are in the near future. It would not be a surprise if we saw triple digit oil prices before Bush leaves office.

The Bush Legacy As of October 13, 2007

The latest installment of the Bush Legacy finds the usual dubious record setting trends. Five new records for Bush and none of them are good.

The U.S. national debt has reached a new all time record high at $9,042,951,429,732.49, up 58% since Bush took office.

The price of NYMEX Light Sweet Crude Oil is at an all time record high at $83.69 as of October 12. That represents a 193% increase in the price of oil since the son of a Texas oil man became president.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has reached a new George W Bush record high at 14,065.36. The 33% increase is still, by far, the worst performance on any post-World War II two term president.

The U.S. dollar has sunk to another new all time low against the Euro at 0.7000, currently at 0.7055. The dollar is down 34%.

For the first time ever the U.S. dollar is worth less than the Canadian dollar. The U.S. dollar record low against the Canadian dollar is 0.9703 while currently at 0.9723 on October 14.
